We’re Ready For The Weekend!

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

It’s here, it’s here! After only four short days, the weekend has arrived again. What are your plans? Post work cocktails? Tapas with friends? Or that much needed takeaway and night in after that hard week? Here’s some of our suggestions of the best things to get involved in.

We love the weekendFor the culture vultures:

The Portobello Film Festival is the UK’s biggest independent film competition so you can be sure to enjoy some of the best independent films the Brits have to offer (and we do tend to be very good at them). There’s also a good range of European films…take a date and show off your film buff side. (1-18 September; 6:30-10:30pm; free; Pop-Up Cinema, 3 Acklam Road , W10 5T or Westbourne Studios, 242 Acklam Road, W10).

For the little ol’ wine drinker in you:

Gordon’s Wine Bar near Charing Cross is a favourite with the Central London crowd and for good reason too! A huge outdoor heated terrace for al fresco drinking and a low lit crypt-like interior, you’ll find this the best atmosphere in which to treat yourself to a bottle of their special wines. Fail-safe dating ground. (47 Villiers Street; WC2; 11am-11pm)

For the Club Bunnies:

Mahiki have had a busy week – entertaining for Esquire’s Best Dressed Man Awards on Wednesday and hosting the afterparty for luxury men’s mag L’altro Uomo’s celebration of their latest bi-annual issue. All about the fashion it would seem and there’s no reason why the party will stop this weekend. It’s a Click member favourite so why not swing by? (1 Dover Street; Mayfair; W1S)

For Date Night:

We are trying out something new and think it’s the perfect idea for your date night this weekend. Be one of the first to trial our latest feature, Click Together, the ideal opportunity to organise your date online. Go be active and enjoy a drink or two at a cocktail masterclass at The Covent Garden Cocktail Club. We’ve found you a great deal that’s not going to break the bank and this date will promise the all important fun factor. (6-7 Great Newport Street; WC2H)

Happy weekend all!

Get Inspired, The Weekend Is Here!

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Although we have one every week, the weekend feels like a rare and special relief from the daily pressures of life. All things grind to halt and rather than worry about the usual clutter, we seek merriment, enjoyment and the odd hedonistic adventure. The weekend is not a thing to be wasted. FYI lying in bed and lazing around is not considered a waste of time, but there are certainly better ways to spend those precious days and nights.

Help Japan with Nobu
Hit Nobu on Berkeley Square tonight and help contribute towards the Japan effort. Hang with the cool urbanite crowd,  sip Japanese mojitos and dine on the special Omakase menu created by the founders who promise to donate a percentage of sales to a relief organisation. If you’re not in London, there are 23 other participating Nobu’s.

Oxford Vs. Cambridge
If you’re not heading to the Thames to watch the famous boat race between Oxford and Cambridge…Spitalfields City Farm is holding its annual Oxford vs Cambridge Goat Race tomorrow at 1 pm. You will miss out on the muscles, but on the whole I think the goats are a much better option.

The Breakfast Club for Brunch
Definitely one of my favourite places for brunch on a Sunday. Go healthy with carrot juice, smoothies and fresh fruit salads or do I what do and have Huevos Rancheros and a pitcher of Bloody Mary mix instead. The pancakes and French toast are also not to be missed.

A New Strutting Ground?

Friday, March 18th, 2011

I’ve always enjoyed falling out of Proud Gallery in Camden, it’s particularly tempting as my office is situated within 500m of it. Located in The Stables, the former horse hospital is now a 10,000 sq ft photography art gallery by day and when it gets a little darker and we all come out to play, it becomes a music institution, hosting some of London’s best live acts. It’s the perfect scene to be seen and there you will always find a cool crowd of part culture vultures part die-hard party people. So it makes me oh so happy to hear that the crowd from Proud have started a new night scene at the O2 Arena, aptly named Proud2.

Proud2 @ O2

My new strutting ground

It’s all about the performance at Proud2 (formerly Matter) and the weekend line ups are filled with the best live music, celebrity DJs and you can even expect a bit of circus inspired performance. It’s fairly safe to say that you won’t be bored. Last weekend I went down there with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday and it was one of my favourite nights out in London to date. One of the best parts…there is a shuttle service from the Tube to the O2 so the girls needn’t worry about staggering about in skyscraper heels, like I was trying to do! The drinks menu is deep, especially if you’re a vodka drinker and they can cater to most champagne tastes (it’s also interesting how many places are adding the increasingly en vogue Prosecco to their lists).

Tonight you can go and see Chicane and throw yourself back into Ibiza Summers, Tom Middleton is also billed for this evening’s line up. If you’ve got takeaway planned for tonight, don’t fret as Saturday night looks just as promising with Sara Cox taking the turntables for most of the evening. She will also be joined by live act Morning Parade. Saturday’s night (named Bacchus after the Greek god of all things hedonistic and debaucherous) focuses on a Studio 54 style party in London’s newest super club.

Hours: 20:45PM – 07:00AM

Here’s to the weekend!

Latest Obsession: The Book Club

Monday, October 18th, 2010

It gives me great pleasure to announce that I’ve found a new haunt. The Book Club in Shoreditch has lately been catering to all my weekend needs. I first went when my flatmate’s friend celebrated her birthday there and even though we didn’t rock up until after midnight, the party was in full swing and both upper and lower levels were packed wall to wall.

Most of the crowd are West End regulars so a night at The Book Club was something that was delightfully different. Cocktails are fun and they lightly jest at East London stereotypes: names like “Don’t go to Dalston” and “Shoreditch t**t” remind us that whilst at TBC, not to take things too seriously. Drink at the bar upstairs where things a little bit more chilled or venture downstairs where the decor is dark wood furniture, exposed brick and lots of dark corners….TBC

You could almost be at a youth club with a pool table, Pac Man and other old arcade games and if that’s not enough there are opportunities to demonstrate your prowess in table tennis (they also hold tournaments!). This weekend, some friends of mine were heading to The Book Club for their Electro Swing night (also a new obsession) and also to see the live music set so I decided to join in on the fun and games. Arriving much earlier this week, we were in time to grab some food and the chicken fajitas sharing plates were a hit with the whole group!

A few hours later and we had ditched our table in favour of the dancefloor and were soon enjoying the live music. Electro Swing is now exploding on the UK dance scene with its frivolous vintage melodies matched with lively house beats, it keeps things fun. Leaving around closing time, we were back there again for Sunday morning breakfast (seriously hoping that the staff wouldn’t recognise us). Nursing hangovers over bacon and eggs, I also realised the place’s potential as a great breakfast venue – Sunday papers, magazines and Bloody Mary’s was the perfect combination for chilled end of weekend activities. If you’re a bit of a culture vulture, they also host talks with guest speakers and live debates, poetry readings, film screenings during the week.  Saturday night dinner+drinks+club and Sunday breakfast, a weekend at The Book Club is a perfect option for a date weekend. Trust me, you couldn’t go wrong!

Something for The Weekend!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

The weekend is finally here and if you haven’t already done so, it’s time to start making plans! Tempted to try something different? The clubs seem to be enjoying considerable success in time twisting themed nights and if you’re weary of West-end clubbers and city boys in suits, why not venture back in time…The Last Days of Decadence

Head down to Love Strike at the All Star Lanes for Friday night bowling! Drink, bowl and be merry sipping cocktails whilst Dj’s spin tunes your grandparents would have jived to!

If 50’s Americana doesn’t do it for you, but pre-1984 beauties like The Cure and Roy Orbison get you in the mood, White Light at The Lexington is where you need to be tonight. Live music in the Islington venue and an annexed club for when the night is in full swing, make this a great choice for Fridays.

What to do on Saturday? Pop in to The Last Days of Decadence in Shoreditch for a true throwback glamour session. Art Deco and cabaret with the splendidly aristocratic Marquis of Gray ensure you’ll not be snoozing in your Shirley Temple. This Saturday is a particularly special night as The Last Days of Decadence as popular house band Beth & The Black Cats play their farewell gig. Not to be missed!
